For Glass, ‘sustainability’ is not just a feel-good buzzword. The European glass packaging industry is committed to sustainable packaging. The reduction of our environmental impact is one of the major priorities for the industry.
Thanks to the unique example of a bottle-to-bottle production cycle, the glass packaging industry has managed to reduce the amount of natural resources needed for the production of new glass containers by remelting used bottles and jars collected by the citizens.
For almost 40 years, the European Glass Container Manufacturers have been deeply engaged in reducing the environmental impact of the manufacturing process and thus helping to position glass as an environmentally sustainable packaging. The constant engagement by glass makers to improve environmental performance has lead the industry to have a deeper insight into its production operations throughout Europe. In a joint Life Cycle Analysis with the US, the industry now has its own profile from the environmental perspective. The FEVE Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) has helped our industry to understand the complete life cycle of a glass bottle and jar. Below you will find some of the key environmental findings. |
